Belts & Hoses
Most of us never think about the simple things, like belts and hoses, but they are critical to the operation of your car. They help carry the coolant to keep your engine at proper operating temperature, help you steer, help charge the battery, deliver fuel to the engine and so much more. Not having your belts and hoses checked regularly can cause serious damage to your engine, bring your car to a stop and worst of all, cost you a lot more for repairs.
A Speedy Auto Service specialist can detect many potential belt and / or hose problems by checking the belts to ensure they are not cracked, worn or loose as well as inspecting hoses for bulges or soft spots.
It is recommended that these inspections be conducted on a regular basis to head off any potential failure that could result in expensive repairs. Replacement of the belts and hoses should be done as recommended by the vehicles manufacturer.
TIPS:
- Hoses are critical to your vehicle's operation. If a hose springs a leak, wrap the hose, as a temporary measure, with duct tape until you can have it repaired.
- If you hear a squealing sound under the vehicles hood it could indicate a loose belt. It is something you should have checked before it breaks, because you could lose your power steering, the electrical system, which keeps your vehicle running or the water pump, which is needed to cool the engine.
